What is Pulmonary Hypertension?

In October of 2013 my daughter Emily, was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, (PH). Hers was idiopathic ...meaning there was really no reason or cause for it to develop but we think she has had it for at least 4-5 years. Emily was having trouble walking up stairs or inclines and would get light headed. After a series of test she was diagnosed with a condition we had never heard of- Pulmonary Hypertension- the pressure in her lungs was three times normal and the right side of her heart was enlarged. Only 6 in a million people will develop this condition. There is no cure.

But there are treatments that can help delay and  treat the symptoms. There is a lifesaving program at Mass General Hospital that specializes in PH and we are lucky to have it in in our backyard. Emily is own several medications  and has gone back  to Berklee College of Music where she is studying music therapy-  we hope a cure is on the horizon- but it needs funding for research and helping treat patients.   http://www.phassociation.org/

The tourney.

In short this is a photo tourney (catch and release when possible- but not required- categories will include most salt water game fish and even fresh water.  All participants will be given an indicator to be included in photo as well as a shirt, - each shirt will be handmade with your choice of tail on the back of shirt (hand printed by myself or Emily) ---decals and other great stuff. There will be a raffle every month depending on number of entrants and there is no minimum of entries- just matters on how many photos you put up to increase your odds of winning. 

The any PHish Division

By just submitting a fish photo you will be entered into the general raffle- the more fish you submit the more chances you have (limit of 5 fish per drawing period) to win. Raffles will be held on the last day of the month.  

The Striped Bass Division 

an award to be given for longest striped bass at end of year.  2nd and 3rd prize will be drawn in raffle from top 10 submissions.

 The PHlounder Division 

an award to be given for longest flounder at end of year.  2nd and 3rd prize will be drawn in raffle from top 10 submissions. Any black back, yellowtail, fluke  is eligible for this division. 

BluePHin Tuna Division 

an award to be given for longest Bluefin tuna at end of year.  2nd and 3rd prize will be drawn in raffle from top 20 submissions. Fish to be measure to the fork of tail.

Trash PHish Division

We are going on the honor system for measurement, it's not like we are giving away thousands of dollars for first prize fish. All fish should be measured from mouth to fork of fish tail.  Photo does not have to show actual measurement.  The identifier will be shown on this page on May 31st and can be printed out. An identifier will also be included with the shirt but you don't have to wait to start entering fish.   The photo can either be emailed to monsterkayak@gmail.com  or placed on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PhightingPhish be sure include your name species division and length of fish. Catch and release is encouraged but not necessary. this is meant to be a fun tourney- we will pick up more sponsors and momentum as we go. 

This year we you can also enter your fish on instagram-- which will show up on a live feed on this website- under 2016 entrants. 

Prizes: 

General raffle prizes will be announced at the end of each month to encourage people to enter- - only fish caught during weeks prior are eligible and size does not matter- each fish you enter gets you one more chance at raffle with a maximum of 5 during that drawing period - for example our first raffle will be on June 30th, you enter 4 fish by the then and you have 4 chances- plus your general raffle just for entering - so you have  a total of 5 entries. You need to enter more fish for the next drawing period. If you want a fish to be entered in a prize category for end of the year please be sure to include size.

Donations: 

if you would like to make a direct tax deductible donation to the Pulmonary Association you can do so or if you would like to support the tourney please contact me.  If you would like to help us raise funds by asking support from friends or family - they can donate $ for every fish you enter- at the end of the year they can make a direct donation to PH- a special prize will be given to the individual that raises the most money money for PH. (can you say private fish charter)
